Football should be fun, safe and enjoyable, whether you play in a park, at school or for a local club. A number of serious injuries and even fatalities have occurred in recent years as a result of unsafe or incorrect use of goalposts.  Safety is of paramount importance and everyone in SSAFC must play their part to ensure safety. That's why The FA is working with manufacturers and the British Standards Institution to set new standards in goalpost safety.

The four golden rules: Check It, Secure It, Test It, Respect It

A number of key factors must always be considered:-

  • Under no circumstances should children or adults climb, swing or play with the goalposts If not properly secured and assembled the goalposts may topple over.  Ground conditions can affect the stability of goals therefore it is important to liase with manufacturers on the appropriate ground fixings in relation to weather conditions.

  • Before use adults should ensure each goal is anchored securely in it's place. Adults should exert force on the cross bar and posts to ensure that they are really secure and there is no risk of them toppling

Mini goals should be removed to the club hut after use.
